Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony is the most comprehensive survey of Arthur Jafa’s work to date, spanning more than four decades of film, video, photography, sculpture, and installation. Through a distinctive visual language shaped by Black music, cinema, popular culture, and an extensive archive of found imagery, Jafa explores the realities and representation of Black life in America.

Featuring 165 images and landmark works including Love is the Message, The Message is Death (2016) and the Golden Lion–winning The White Album (2018), the book accompanies Jafa’s major solo exhibition at the New Museum and includes an interview with the artist, a roundtable discussion, and contributions from leading writers and scholars.
